I finally got round to sorting out my various domains – I’ve completely refreshed this personal site, and also set up something vaguely professional. Here’s a list of what I’ve got:
- bullox.net – this personal site
- teacherlab.net – an e-learning site
- bullock.me – a surname-site for professional and family use
- steve.bullock.me – a professional site
I’ve become more aware of the necessity of an online identity, and wanted to be able to separate personal and professional aspects of my life. I’m not hiding the personal stuff though, so I’ll have to keep that pretty smart too. Not too much ranting and raving or deeply personal stuff – may set up something anonymous if I really want to do that, but it’s not really my style anyway.
Having snagged the .me domain I’ve now secured a domain for any family members that want one – when I start a family of my own I’ll be able to create pages for them.
I’m using WordPress for all the sites, even though a couple won’t be blogs. I found some superb themes from Design Disease, with a common layout and style. I’ll see how the static-ish sites turn out – might change to Joomla if WP is not flexible enough.
Everything’s hosted with DreamHost in the US, they’ve got some excellent rates and have been great on the service front too. They also practice Green Hosting, offsetting all carbon emissions at no extra charge to customers! [Disclaimer: those two links are referral links that mean if you sign up I get a bonus. If you use promo code BULLOX then you'll get a $50 discount too. Sounds fair?]
So that’s that. I’m set up, no promises on update frequency or quality of content – I’ve not got a great track record of consistency with previous tries, but at least I’m here!
